Scripture Labs
LabsAbout

How It Works

Scripture Labs helps you read the Bible like a pro by not just feeding you information, but by training you over and over again until you become independently excellent at reading and understanding the Bible.

Whereas most sermons or videos try to teach you what the Bible says, Scripture Labs goes the extra mile by teaching you how to discover what the Bible says.

Growing up as a Christian for 20 years, I was shocked when I learned that I had very little idea how to read the Bible properly. When I discovered some proper Bible reading principles, it sparked a new fire in my faith. I wanted to read the Bible with everyone in order to show them the beauty that can be discovered when we read it properly. I did so with Christians and non-Christians alike, and I saw sparks in both groups’ eyes when they began to understand such a cryptic text. Pretty soon, the Bible became all I ever really wanted to talk about when I was with friends and coworkers.
So after six years working for a reputable tech company, I quit my job to create Scripture Labs. My hope is that you'll experience sparks in your eyes when you use it.

Ever since Indiana Jones, I’ve wanted to know everything I could about the world of the Bible. I sought training to read and understand texts of different genres, cultures, and contexts. And since 2014, I’ve even had the privilege to be on the staff of an archeological excavation in Israel.
Also in 2014, the Lord led me to join the faculty at Pillar Seminary. We wanted to train people in the effective way we had been trained: Teach the student a set of skills, sit with them as they practice, and guide them as they grow. So, we developed a simple set of skills that equips students to understand and live according to Scripture.
The impact on our students’ lives and ministries has been profound and exciting, but it’s been stuck in the classroom. By God’s grace, Sang and his team reached out to me with a platform that allows for this simple, powerful technique to be made available to you and the rest of the world. I pray God blesses you as you seek and meet him.

We currently use the 2016 version of the ESV due to its broad use, but this might change in the future. We do not have plans to support many Bible translations because Scripture Labs’ primary purpose is to equip you with Bible reading expertise, not to be a Bible reader.
We are not affiliated with a denomination.
Scripture Labs is built by Basil Technologies, a Christian tech non-profit who also built the Read Scripture app that is associated with The Bible Project. However, Scripture Labs itself is not affiliated with The Bible Project. Its content and scholarship comes from professors at Pillar Seminary.
Scripture Labs was first released with a lab on Genesis 1. It was written as a proof of concept, so we’ve made the decision to deprecate the lab. Expect an updated Genesis 1 lab in the near future.
